INITIAL HORSE/PONY REGISTRATIONS

To register a horse or pony for the first time you will have to complete an Initial Registration Form.

In order for registration to be accepted it is necessary that you enclose an original identification sketch for you horse or pony. Identification sketches must include a written description of the horse/pony and the sketch must show a minimum of five distinguishing features. It is a mandatory requirement to show any brand mark, freeze mark or micro chip No: The identification document must be completed by a veterinary surgeon or BSJA identification panelist. Identification documents include breed society papers/passports, flu vaccination certificates, Joint Measurement Board Documents and FEI passports. If breeding papers are held please forward original documentation for overstamping by the BSJA office. In order to compete in age classes original breeding papers must be sent.

To help you obtain identification documentation without the need to consult your veterinary surgeon, the BSJA has set up an identification panel who are authorised to prepare an identification sketch card for the purpose of registration. Once the identification panel member has completed the sketch card he/she will forward it to the BSJA office on your behalf along with your registration forms. Contact details of all panelists are available from the BSJA offices or your Area Representative.

Please allow five working days for your applications to be processed.

STALLION REGISTRATION

Please contact BSJA for details on Stallion Registration.

GRADING OF IMPORTED HORSES

Horses imported from abroad will be graded according to their actual winnings (currency or points) or as decided by the Chief Executive, taking into account the number of starts, and the height levels at which the horse has competed abroad, provided such horses are registered with the Association under the same name as they were registered abroad and the appropriate papers are produced at the time of registration to confirm their identity. In the absence of any proof of identity horses imported from abroad will be graded with the following initial winnings according to their ages:

AGE WINNINGS WINNINGS
(After June 1st)
4 YEARS NIL NIL
5 YEARS £50 £100
6 YEARS £200 £300
7 YEARS £400 £500
8 YEARS+ £2000 £2000

Horses and ponies imported from Ireland will be graded with their points as reported by the Show Jumping Association of Ireland by converting points to pounds sterling by multiplying by a factor of 2.5 for Ponies and 9 for Horses.

Junior affiliated competitions offer two ways to compete. There are competitions that relate to the height of the pony and the age of the rider, or competitions that allow junior members to compete on any height of pony. The purpose of the latter is to allow smaller children to compete on their pony for a greater length of time.
