BSJA Equity Policy

The BSJA is working to achieve, maintain and, where necessary, improve the concept of racial equality within show jumping at all levels. A Sporting Equals Racial Equality Charter was signed at the Royal International Horse Show in July 2002 as a first step towards achieving a Preliminary Award in racial equality.

“Equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or social/economic status” (Sport England)

Statement of Intent:
“In relation to Equity the BSJA:
a) aims to ensure that all people, irrespective of race, age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, social status or sexual orientation, have equal opportunities to take part in equestrianism at all levels and roles
b) seeks to educate and guide BSJA members, their employees and volunteers on the ownership, adoption and implementation of its Equity Plan
c) intends to raise awareness of Equity through the implementation of this policy and the adoption of the Equity Action Plan and, as a result of this process,
d) aims to monitor, review and evaluate progress in achieving the stated aims and to feed back to member bodies on progress made
The BSJA will ensure that its recruitment and selection procedures are fair and transparent and meet the appropriate legal requirements.”

SAFEGUARDING & PROTECTING CHILDREN

The protection and support of young people within our sport is of paramount importance to the Asssociation and the Association supports the British Equestrian Federation's Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policy.

A recommendation of the Policy is that member bodies of the Federation apoint a Lead Welfare Officer who will act as a first point of contactfor any personwho has a concern about child welfare and protection. The person within British Show Jumping is Pam Rose.

The Lead Welfare Officer will have attended appropriate Workshops dealing with these issues.

A copy of the BEF Child Protection policy can be viewed/downloaded via the BEF website. Additionally, a form for reporting an incident can be downloaded from the link below.
